“Midnight Mass”, while not quite at “Squid Game” levels, is still hanging around the Top 10’s on Netflix around the world (read our spoiler-free review here) and creator Mike Flanagan has more still to come. The director has previously worked with Netflix for the films “Gerald’s Game” and “Before I Wake” as well as the popular series “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor”.
Flanagan is currently working on “The Midnight Club” – a horror mystery-thriller based on the 1994 novel by Christopher Pike. The series will also use elements from other Pike novels. The series follows group of seven close terminally ill young adults resides in the Rotterdam Home hospice run by an enigmatic doctor. They meet at midnight every night to tell each other scary stories. One night they make a pact that the first one to succumb to their disease is responsible for communicating with the others beyond the grave. After one of them dies, bizarre occurrences begin.
Yesterday it was announced that Netflix and Flanagan are also working on “The Fall of the House of Usher” – a new limited series based on multiple works from Edgar Allan Poe. While we don’t yet have any plot details, we do know that the eight-part series is a standalone series.
